Sugar High!

Man cannot live by cake alone!
Admittedly, we have taken a little poetic license with that oft-quoted verse, which alludes to the spiritual needs of mankind.

We wholeheartedly agree that your needs are many, beginning with a loving husband, a beautiful setting, and a satisfying meal. But it’s dessert that sweetens the day, signifies your promise to nurture one another and caps off a delicious feast. Bring on the sugar high!

Event Planner Victoria Canada takes us beyond spectacular cakes for a dessert presentation that is part drama, part artistic genius and all fabulous.

“Many couples are now offering alternative desserts for their guests,” explains event maven Canada, who adds, “Not to say that the cake has a diminished role. The cake is still the belle of the ball, but we’re seeing more of a supporting cast in additional sweets.”

Lovely to look at as well as delicious, these displays define the term “eye candy,” with their lush florals and exquisite table linens. Delicate blue hydrangeas and ivory roses set in vintage silver and mercury glass are virtually pretty enough to eat.

Dress to Impress
Canada chose opulent linens to dress these dessert tables, including the dramatic blue-on-ivory damask pattern shown here and a lace topper draped over a taupe tablecloth creating a ballgown effect on the next two pages. “The lace topper is a beautiful way to showcase your cake table.” she says. She advises, “If you’re trying to trim your budget, focus on the cake table [for custom linens], where everyone is sure to see it.”

Bedazzle My Bonbons, our source for bites of bling, look irresistible displayed alongside the tres French paper fan motif signage. Enticing chocolates with embossed patterns seduce the palate from their perch beside decadent cakes. When it comes to desserts, “too much of a good thing” is just right. And whose idea was it to have only one cake?

Sweet Staging
Gorgeous cake stands bring all your confections to center stage. “We chose these cake stands because they elevate the delicious treats on the table and are works of art in and of themselves,” says Canada.

Creativity abounds when creating a dessert buffet for your wedding. Cakes, cupcakes, petit fours, macarons and truffles are all excellent choices. This is a great time to share your personal favorites. We adore these inventive cake “shooters,” a fancy take on ice cream push up pops. Topped with their delicate signs, they’re nearly impossible to resist.
