First comes work, then comes friendship, then comes a ring in a horse-drawn sleigh.
Take a little poetic license with the age-old children’s rhyme, and you have the storybook romance of Wendi Whitmore and Jason Rafferty.
The couple met five years ago while working in Los Angeles. A close friendship and romance soon followed, including a snowboarding trip to Whistler, British Columbia. The scene, on the coldest day of the year, presented the perfect opportunity for Jason’s magical proposal in a horse-drawn sleigh.
The couple chose a sunset wedding in Scottsdale. While the bride’s immediate family hails from Arizona, the couple currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia—making this a destination wedding for nearly all the guests. Indeed, friends and family traveled from all over the world to attend the festivities over the wedding weekend.
Beginning on friday evening, the bride and groom hosted 25 close friends at Suede Lounge in Scottsdale. Jason and Wendi reserved VIP tables and bottle service so they and their friends could relax and dance the night away in style.
On Saturday evening, the groom’s parents hosted an elegant sunset rehearsal dinner for all the wedding guests at the matron of Honor’s house in Ahwatukee. This event gave all the guests a chance to get to know each other and relax with the bride and groom before the wedding.
The wedding ceremony took place on Sunday evening with the Luke Air force Base Honor Guard posting sabers (swords) on either side of the lush green aisle. Jason looked handsome in his Air force formal Uniform, called a “mess
dress.” After the family and bridal party procession, Wendi’s father escorted his youngest daughter down the rose and daisy-strewn path.
At sunset, guests enjoyed cocktails on the balcony with breathtaking views of the city and the famous Arizona sunset. Dinner was served in a spectacular setting: picture a candle-lit room with pink uplighting on the walls, stunning table setting with black linens and red, orange and hot pink Gerber daisy centerpieces suspended on color-coordinated fruits.
A real treat was offered to the guests in the form of a colorfully sweet candy display. Wendi’s artist brother-inlaw created a unique laser-etched and brushed aluminum display for multi-colored Chinese take-out boxes that served as the backdrop for the candy bar table. for favors, the guests took boxes and filled them with pink, red, and orange candies as well as custom-designed chocolate-colored fortune cookies.
