A Magical Evening
What bride doesn’t want magic on her wedding day?
When Kelley de Haan and John Fitzsimmons wed this summer, they really had magic.
“John is a professional magician,” explains Kelley, “who has recently appeared on every major television network in the nation and has traveled across the country because of his unique performing ability.”
Combine John’s talent and Kelley’s whimsical personality (she decided on a glow-in-the-dark wedding theme when she was just ten), and you have the ingredients for an enchanting celebration.
The pair wed under an altar wrapped with fresh greenery adorned with glowing purple lights, while a wizard/magician performed the ceremony filled with magic and light. “His magic included a book that mysteriously created flames, producing bowls filled with water. He pulled a light from his heart to symbolize our love, adding an extra spark when we lit the unity candle,” recalls the bride.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed a cocktail hour while various magicians performed to the delight of the wedding party. The pre-meal celebration was capped off with a fireworks show that illuminated the evening sky—one of the couple’s favorite ways to “bring in a holiday.”
Guests were then invited into the ballroom decorated with purple-lighted acrylic tables bearing clear, bubble-filled risers lit with bright white lights. Silver lame fabric and white calla lilies and orchids and silver bear grass completed the look. Glow bracelets served as napkin rings as well as fun favors for the guests.
The surprises continued into the night. “The garter toss proved difficult for John, as…he pulled out a bouquet of flowers, a 30-foot silk streamer, a mousetrap, and finally the garter,” says Kelley. The garter itself was custom-designed to fit Kelley’s ideal theme, which included miniature purple glow sticks.
At the end of the evening, John and Kelley departed their magical event surrounded by family and friends holding sparklers.
