Married in Maui
Choosing a location to celebrate your nuptials isn’t always as simple as “your church or mine?”
In a day and age when couples tend to marry after the bride and groom have established lives separate from their families, sometimes moving across the country, the decision becomes significantly more complicated. Do you return to the bride’s hometown? Hold a wedding in the couple’s new home city? Then again, why not simply choose a destination that would offer a fun and festive getaway for everyone?
Those were exactly the questions set before Stephanie
McEvoy and Joel Kassera. The couple ultimately chose the most enchanting venue of all, a quaint chapel on the Hawaiian island of Maui, to celebrate their wedding with 40 of their closest family and friends. The white chapel provided an intimate and charming setting for their ceremony, while the reception was celebrated beach side.
Setting the tone for their island destination was easy for the pair, as the bride’s close friend is the owner of one of the area’s foremost stationers. While faced with vast variety in paper products, the couple knew they wanted to maintain an island feel while incorporating a lavender and floral theme. A sophisticated chocolate brown envelope was used to tie the elements of the invitation together.
The bridesmaids wore strapless floral dresses accented with traditional flower leis, while the men in the wedding party sported linen pants and island-inspired embroidered white shirts. Every person in attendance donned the smile that comes from the joy of seeing a couple happily joined in marriage. And, as the bride says, “Everything was very casual—flip-flops were practically mandatory!”
A reception on the beach, featuring a traditional Hawaiian buffet, allowed the pair to enjoy the beauty of their destination while capturing once-in-a-lifetime photographs with their close friends. The day following the wedding, the entire party enjoyed a catamaran snorkeling tour as well as several days of just enjoying the Hawaiian paradise. Recalls the bride, “We loved the fact that we could spread out our wedding festivities over an entire week, instead of just one day!”
