Starting our life together in the most special way possible, Josh and I were married by his father after sunset, with a slight breeze blowing my veil,” recalls bride Christy Cole, who had always dreamed of a romantic candlelight wedding.
She continues: “We walked back up the aisle as husband and wife to a tune requested by Josh: ‘Another One Bites the Dust.’”
A sense of humor may be one of the hallmarks of a successful marriage!
The couple, who met during a college statistics class, were married at the Firesky Resort & Spa, a venue she had envisioned as the perfect wedding destination during her years at ASU. “When the time came, I visited it again and it was still as perfect as I remembered: modern yet cozy.” They were joined by over 100 family and friends who traveled from all over the United States to celebrate with the pair.
A deep red and champagne gold color scheme set off by the attendants’ black attire and black magic roses set the tone for a sophisticated celebration. From the bride’s silk flip flops to the surprise serenade by the groomsmen and ushers, the newlyweds also set the tone for fun.
Three chef-staffed catering stations were offered to allow guests the freedom to choose their favorite cuisine. The top layer of the couple’s wedding cake was the groom’s favorite dessert: cheesecake! The bottom two layers were the traditional favorites, chocolate and vanilla.
Rather than a typical guest book, the couple asked their family and friends to offer advice for a successful marriage.
Dancing went well into the evening, providing the couple with wonderful memories of their families becoming acquainted on the dance floor and throughout the wedding festivities.
“At our wedding, we were so grateful to have so many special friends and family members in one place, getting to know each other,” recalls the bride. “My favorite part of the wedding? Becoming a Johnson!”
