The beauty of the desert...
...inspires visitors and natives alike to share the most important times of their lives amid the splendor of the Southwest. When John Coppola and Christa Matson, who hail from Connecticut and Canada, respectively, chose Arizona for their destination wedding, it was for precisely that reason.
Says Christa, “What was truly unique about our special day is that neither of us, nor any of our families, were from Arizona. It truly was a destination wedding, and not just for a few people, but for everyone.” Christa and John fell in love with the desert while visiting her parents’ winter home in Scottsdale, and they hope to eventually make their home in Arizona.
To show off their dream destination, the couple invited their respective families, many of whom had never met, to Arizona for several days of celebration that will live in their memories forever. The festivities began on Thursday night with a welcome dinner, which served to introduce the guests to one another. The next morning, the ladies retreated for a spa day while the men enjoyed the area’s world-class golfing. This “pre-party” was truly a time for the guests to share in the formation of the bond that was being created between the two families.
Saturday’s ceremony and reception were held at Sassi. Its location on Pinnacle Peak provided just the right amount of shade for the outdoor summer ceremony and the ensuing festivities. The father of the bride marveled at the way the day’s record heat magically cooled for the celebration: “I prayed for a beautiful day for you two with lots of sunshine... apparently God had nothing better to do today.”
As Christa recalls, “By the time Saturday evening and the wedding rolled around, our 40 guests were all acquainted and closer than we could have hoped for. These people had just spent the last few days together and... came together that evening to support our marriage and celebrate our love.”
