When Rupa Gala and Anup Shah were joined in marriage, more than five hundred family and friends celebrated with a traditional Vedic Hindu Wedding Ceremony at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa. The Baraat, or procession of the groom, featured the groom leading the way on a spectacular elephant, accompanied by his parents, family and friends.

The entire entourage is festive as it makes its way toward the lavishly decorated wedding tent. Family and friends show their enthusiasm for the union of the lovely couple by singing and dancing along the way.

The bejeweled wedding tent is decked out in stunning crimson. At every turn, magnificent floral displays welcome the bride and groom and their joyous guests. The elephants, such as this one rendered entirely in flowers, bring good luck to the event and the marriage.

In keeping with tradition, the parents invoke the presence of Lord Ganesh (Elephant God), the protector from obstacles. The ceremony worships the five life sustaining elements: Earth, Water, Air, Fire & Sky.

As blessings are chanted through wedding songs, Rupa and Anup exchange jaimala, flower garlands. Later, Rupa and Anup feed each other sweets as their first meal as husband and wife. The Priest, family members and friends offer blessings to the newlyweds and family.
