Cicely Rocha and Joe Miller were went to great lengths to select the
proper attire—for themselves as well as their guests when planning
their wedding.
The invitations, which suggested the guests wear crimson and
black, may have been a preemptive strike against what the bride calls “a
family full of ‘vintage’ fashion sense.”
“When the bridal colors are Crimson and Black and someone wears
the sky-blue plaid suit and bone-white shoes with the gold buckles
that they wore to the prom 34 years ago, then pictures are definitely
worth a thousand words. It was fun to hear how many people had to
go buy a tie, but the pictures came out better then expected! “
party of two, please
Traditionally the bride and groom dine with their guests at the wedding
reception. A private conversation is usually difficult, when the
sound of clanging glasses at the most inopportune times means a kiss
between the newlyweds. If they are lucky, the typical couple can chat
with their guests during the reception, but the trade-off is a cold meal
and just a few stolen moments with their new spouse.
Cicely and Joe decided to break with tradition and have a short
meal alone after greeting the guests during the receiving line. Says
Cicely, “The atmosphere was extremely romantic, and the quiet time
to enjoy one another after the ceremony allowed us to soak up the day
and appreciate what we had just been through. We were announced by
the time everyone was ready to eat dessert, and were able to visit with
everyone equally over coffee, cake, and conversation.”
some like it hot
“For those guests that don’t show up for the ‘open’ bar, we gave them
a gourmet coffee bar instead,” explains the bride. “We set it up right
next to the dessert station with wedding cake and fresh cannoli.
The coffee bar rivaled any Starbucks’ selection, and the servers were
dressed to impress, adding that extra impact. The line was literally
out the door all night long with each guest complimenting and raving
about it.”
