he said, she said
When New Yorkers Ellen Walpert
and Christopher Kobran were
introduced through mutual friends,
they were immediately drawn to one
another and embarked on a romantic courtship that culminated
in a song:
Ellen describes Chris’ proposal: “It was a Friday morning
and I love to sleep, but Chris woke up me playing the guitar and
singing to me at 7:15 in the morning. It was my favorite song
“True Companion” so I wasn’t that annoyed. After he finished
I said “That’s great honey, but I have 45 more minutes before
I have to wake up.” He then got down on one knee and asked
me if I would do him the honor of becoming his wife. I was
surprised, and excited, and I said yes. He then brought me into
the living room where he had strawberries and champagne.”
The couple was married at the Troon Country Club in Scottsdale
this past March, surrounded by 170 family and friends,
many of whom traveled great distances to attend the wedding.
Says Ellen, “In a traditional Jewish wedding seven blessings are
spoken by the Rabbi. We came up with seven words that we
felt made a marriage. We then had seven of our closest friends
and family speak about what the word assigned to them meant
in regard to us as a couple. It was so wonderful to have so many
people involved in our wedding.”
Calling the wedding “a dream come true,” the groom shares
his memories: “I remember the day being exactly what we wanted
when we decided to do the wedding in Scottsdale, warm
and sunny. Ellen walking down the aisle in her beautiful dress
is something I will never forget. In our nearly six years together,
I still get goose bumps every time I see her. I wish I could relive
this day over and over.
His bride agrees: “I remember walking down the aisle to
meet Chris and thinking, I’m so lucky, I’m marrying my best
friend. From the moment we met (six years ago) to now, it’s
been an amazing journey and one that I can’t wait to continue
for the rest of our lives.”
Their guests were equally ebullient in describing the celebration.
Many commented about the gorgeous sunset framing
the couple as they exchanged their vows and broke the glass.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the couple turned to see
that a shimmering full moon had risen behind their family and
friends.
