Sean is very modern and edgy,
whereas I am more reserved and
conservative,” reflects Brooke
Martz, who wed Canadian
hockey player Sean O’Connor
this past June in Scottsdale.
Meeting in the neutral zone was important to the pair,
who chose the Fairmont Scottsdale as the site for their
celebration. “In the planning process, we decided to have
the décor be very chic and not too frou frou,” she explains.
“everything was black and white, with an antique elegancemeets-
modern feel.”
The sophisticated color scheme was executed beautifully,
with custom-made black and white table linens and
exquisite bouquets of Calla lilies, setting the tone. Crystal
beading, black and white embroidery and opulent light
fixtures brought in an element of luxury, while the groom
and his attendants showed off their style with custom kicks:
black nikes.
The couple’s wedding coordinator, Charlee Geisler, created
the stunning white draping and crystal chandeliers that
lined the aisle, a purely romantic touch.
Lounge furnishings were brought in to the reception site
to “give our guests a feel that they were at the latest, most
exclusive new club,” says Brooke. Chaises, coffee tables and
lighted pillars flanked the dining area, encouraging conversation
among the guests and enhancing the club vibe.
The black and white dance floor was custom created
for the reception and featured the couple’s names in lights.
even the 12-foot bar was dressed to the nines in crystal
beading.
In a fun twist on the “dog days of summer,” Brooke and
Sean gave a nod to their cherished canine friends with the
inclusion of a signature cocktail. “The ginger MarTina,”
named after their Maltese-Yorkies, ginger and Tina, was a
decadent godiva white chocolate martini with chocolate
cookie crumbs and rock candy as a garnish.
Following a meal of filet mignon and crab-stuffed
shrimp, the couple and their guests enjoyed a cheesecake
cupcake tower, topped off by a giant cupcake for the newlyweds.
The evening’s entertainment included two bands from
Las Vegas, which combined to form an orchestra during the
reception. Guests also enjoyed an unexpected gift from the
bride’s step-father. Brooke explains: “There was a surprise
visit from Elvis--an impersonator-. It was the same “Elvis”
that made an appearance at my mom’s wedding. It really
was hilarious.”
