Building a Dream

Shanna and Ian are a couple who know the value of time. In fact, it took the pair less than 24 hours to decide that they were meant to be together. It took just a little bit longer to arrange that "together."

Their whirlwind courtship began in Las Vegas, where Shanna made a sales call that brought an exciting turn to both their lives. The relationships criss-crossed several states over the next three months, culminating in a romantic proposal at the same San Francisco Bay area restaurant where her parents became engaged.

The pair wasted no time in setting a date and choosing a venue to make it "official." "We were living in separate states," explains Shanna, "so it was just the sooner the better." They settled on the groom's childhood hometown, Phoenix, in March due to the ideal weather at that time of year.

Wanting an exciting experience for family and friends who would travel so far for the celebration, the two design professionals chose to marry at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West. "It took one visit before we were sold on the location," she says. "It was really perfect for our entire family."

The ceremony took place at sunset with the bride and groom atop the dramatic steps in front of the breathtaking estate. Family and friends looked on from the asymmetrical setting between the adjacent lawn and reflecting pool as the soft sound of a Spanish guitar floated through the air. As the bride and groom enjoyed their first few moments of marriage in private, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with panoramic views of the city.

Shanna took a special interest in the floral elements of the wedding, incorporating her favorite flower throughout the event. Daisies appeared in yellow, persimmon and orange, adding a playful note to the dramatic architectural setting. Green table linens offered a soft backdrop to the bright decor. Custom place-settings of contemporary glassware and square plates adorned the alternating round and square tables. For the meal itself, the couple choose a southwestern fusion menu. Their wedding cake design featured the same classic Frank Lloyd Wright motif that appeared on their wedding invitations.

Although many guests met the bride or the groom for the first time at the wedding, the pair was immediately embraced by each side of the family, who presented many humorous toasts to the couple. "Not only was it so entertaining, but so sweet to see my family embrace my new husband as they did!"
